Privacy
The short version: almost nothing.
No accounts, no tracking cookies
There is nothing to sign up for, no advertising, and no cross-site tracking. The site is a set of static files served from a CDN. The only code on it that does not come from us comes from Cloudflare: see Analytics and The contact form below.
What is stored on your device
One item in localStorage, called nr-theme, remembering whether you chose the light or dark theme. It never leaves your browser. Clearing site data removes it.
The tools
The translator, name tool and keyboard run entirely in your browser. Text you type into them is never sent anywhere. You can verify this by disconnecting from the network after the page loads; they carry on working.
Search
The search page downloads a small index file and searches it locally. Your queries are not sent to a server.
Analytics
No analytics are currently enabled. If that changes, it will be a cookieless, privacy-preserving option and this page will say so.
Hosting logs
The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages, which keeps standard server logs including IP addresses for security and abuse prevention. That is Cloudflare's processing, not ours, and we do not have access to individual-level data from it.
The contact form
The contact form is the one page that loads something from a third party. It uses Cloudflare Turnstile, an anti-spam check that tells a person from a bot without the puzzles: Cloudflare receives your IP address and some signals about your browser in order to make that judgement, and it runs only on that page.
What you type into the form is sent to a relay service, which checks the anti-spam token and forwards the message to us by email. Your email address is sent only if you fill that field in; it is optional, and the message arrives either way.
Outbound links
Links to external sites (databases, publishers, the Unicode Consortium) are ordinary links. Those sites have their own privacy practices.
